With some of the lyrics included here I’ve left unused lines, verses or simply ideas under the heading “Outtakes” below the signature under the finished piece. I find it useful and some have contributed ideas to something new.

96. The lift has stopped. (19 July 2015).

No “Outtakes” to tag onto the bottom of this piece. It was pretty much done as it is in the one sitting of an evening this summer just passed. Full of the trademark uplifting jollity, it’s a rumination on some … Continue reading

40.There’s Nothing So Sweet. (July ’14)

Version one of the “There’s nothing so sweet” duo. I was really paying attention to the numbers there. 40.There’s Nothing So Sweet. (July ’14)  There’s nothing so sweet as unrequited, And nothing so unrequited as long lost and gone, It’s … Continue reading

41.There’s Nothing So Sweet. (July ’14).

This is one of two pieces that share the same title. They are only slightly different, and like people, have more in common than they don’t. But I was reading them at lunchtime today and enjoying the subtle variation between … Continue reading

Heading down the hill that runs on from the bottom of Broughton Street the other day, on a day off going towards a lunch cooked by someone else this is simply what I saw. I had to add, hopefully just … Continue reading

105. The second reel (23 Aug 2015).

Some fag end of the weekend doggeral, dipped in spite and fear. Being one of a multitude has never been reassuring. So before I go and leave this here there just remains to say. This has pretty much percolated up … Continue reading

104. A walk between two bridges. (23rd Aug 2015)

It’s a few months since I passed into the third year since the creative writing began properly, with the kind of regularity that has made it now feel a natural part of who I am. This is part of the … Continue reading

89. From beyond the eyelids and tears (June 2015)

I’ve been sat on this for a couple of months without a satisfactory title presenting itself but now I’ve got tired of sitting. So I’m just going with what’s here. I recall spending half the gig with the seeds of … Continue reading

103. The Festival. (All the arts in red and black). 15 August 2015.

One for the local inhabitants this one. And you don’t have to have been born here to feel the seasonal fatigue in a city whose population apparently doubles at this time of year, among others, and the tourists are never … Continue reading
